Diana's idea

Diana was born in Tensaw, a few miles up the road from here, and grew up in Venezuela and Argentina. She spent forty years in modern dance — choreographing it, performing it, and teaching it in the Wigman and Hawkins traditions — and she holds master's degrees in the arts in education and in Spanish literature.

Later she turned to painting, and opened the first Riverhouse Workshop on the St. Lucie River in Stuart, Florida. Then she brought it home, to the Mobile-Tensaw Delta in North Baldwin County where she started.

What she wanted was a space where artists of all levels can come to learn, grow, and create. Not a school you have to be good enough for — a community center where anyone can participate in the arts, with prices within reach and someone beside you who knows the work, and that is still what runs the place.

Diana teaches performing arts here as well, and she choreographs and directs the children's theater company. Diana spends her time helping artists find their own identity in their work, because she believes making art is one of the most beautiful forms of self-expression, and bringing artists of all levels together is a great way to form a close-knit community.
